LA Happenings: 11 & 12 June

Summer is finally here and there’s nothing quite like LA in the summer! Work hard, play harder - but the question is how… Here are some of my top picks:

Rose Bowl Flea Market

Vintage treasure hunters and bargain seekers flock to the legendary Rose Bowl Flea Market. The second Sunday of every month, experience over 2,500 vendors full of antiques, vintage clothing, local art, and specialty products.

Paradise In The Park

Don’t miss out on the last event at Pershing Square before years of construction begins. A bit of Ibiza will be landing in DTLA as Jamie Jones and others spin in Grand Park into the evening.

Summer Evening Strolls at the Huntington

As sunset creeps later and later into the evening, the Huntington is taking advantage of the extra daylight with this coveted after-hours series.

Grab a little culture at The Getty

“The Lost Murals of Renaissance Rome” uses drawings from the museum’s collection to show how the walls of Rome were once covered in elaborate frescoes. While, “Judy Baca: Hitting the Wall” will examine the design, painting, destruction and restoration of the artist’s 1984 Olympics mural.

Cinespia Cemetery Screenings

It isn’t summer in LA until the first cemetery screening brings hoards of movie-lovers to Hollywood Forever, toting folding chairs, picnic blankets, snack spreads and lots of booze.

Babies! at the Aquarium of the Pacific

See miniature sea jellies and other tiny aquatic creatures at the new “Babies!” exhibition. The small gallery features baby animals as well as the stories behind them and how the institution cares for them. Make sure to head over to the sea otter habitat too, to coo over the pups.

A Forest for the Trees

Installation artist Glenn Kaino has turned a 28,000 sqft space in DTLA into a surreal forest that asks visitors to contemplate their relationship with nature.

Brewyard Art Festival

Featuring a unique blend of artists, vendors, live music, tasty food, and live paintings, the Brewyard Art Festival offers the perfect opportunity to experience a side of Glendale that most aren’t familiar with.

You really are spoilt for choice this weekend.
