LA Happenings: 4 & 5 June

It’s been a long two years but it finally feels like things are getting back to normal and we finally have a plethora of signature local events coming back to LA. Here are some of my top picks:

LA WineFest

Sip on samples at each station on the Long Beach waterfront with access to wines from dozens of wineries, plus seminars, live entertainment, boutiques and food trucks galore. Oh, and you’ll get to keep your glass, so don’t feel so smug about sneaking it into your purse.

Drive-In Movie Nights at The Roadium

Starting this Friday, The Roadium in Torrance returns with evening film screenings in a classic 1950s drive-in setting. The series opens with Rush Hour this Friday.

WeHo Pride

Kick off Pride Month @ WeHo Pride - bringing an LGBTQ+ street fair, music fest and parade to the city. On the music side, headliners for OUTLOUD: Raising Voices include Lil’ Kim, Jessie J, Marina and Years & Years.

SmorgasBURGER

This Sunday Smorgasburg will host the first ever, SmorgasBURGER , a “burger bonanza of epic proportions”. Expect pop ups, collaborations and burger specials from weekly vendors.

Jazz at LACMA

This Friday at 6 p.m., the Los Angeles County Museum of Art brings the Matt Gordy JazzTonite Sextet to Smidt Welcome Plaza as part of the ongoing Jazz at LACMA series

Ben Schwartz @ Largo

Looking for a chuckle? One of the most talented improv performers, period, see Schwartz and a surprise assembly of friends take to the stage at Largo.

Hayao Miyazaki

The final weekend of “Hayao Miyazaki,” which opened with the Academy Museum’s debut, features over 300 storyboards, concept images and backgrounds, many of them on display outside of Studio Ghibli’s Tokyo headquarters for the first time.

Opening Night at The Bowl

Kick off the start of the Hollywood Bowl season with his performance from Gwen Stefani, backed by the Gustavo Dudamel-led LA Phil. The night starts with the premiere of a John Williams-penned fanfare for the Bowl’s centennial and wraps up with fireworks.

You really are spoilt for choice this weekend.
